Rotten News

Okay, it's come to my attention that someone has posted clips from TIP on to YouTube. Until we can get all the TIP members together to talk about this, I'm making the temporary decision to close distribution and suspend all projects. It may become permanent, depending on the consensus of all members.

If you've sent us money for discs already, we'll complete your request.

~Jen

ETA: Thanks, everyone, for your support and comments. It'll probably take us at least a week to get in touch with all the TIP members, since a lot of them are offline right now due to traveling, tests, plowing the South Field [ED: You made that up], etc.... We also want think time. Thanks for your patience. <3

*supplements* Offending YouTube users are:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Bombalurina18

And I'm kind of flabbergasted that Teffy didn't tell us about this, even though she said she found it a couple of months ago:

http://www.solelo.com/blog/index.php/2009/01/second-contest/

For the record, my vote is to at least threaten to shut down permanently. This is unacceptable.

D:

I was going to order after my birthday next week. ;_;

I support what you guys are doing, though, and I understand why you'd want to close distribution if people are abusing it. That sucks so much. argh.

[identity profile] shirabyoshi.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I vote to shut down.

[identity profile] morganskye.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
I want to vote to shut down, but I haven't gotten all the stuff I want yet. :( However, it's understandable to not want this to continue.

;_______; omg that sucks so much..

Massively disappointing, but you absolutely have to do what you think is right. How utterly inexcusable of people.

[identity profile] sumire-no-hana.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm honestly surprised that it's taken this long for this to happen :/ *sighs* I wish things had gone differently for all of you

(and amusingly enough, even though I know and have met most all of you, I have yet to see a TIP show XD)

[identity profile] ginapagott.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Goddamn, I was about to make an order after one of your new projects came out T_T

I've felt so lucky to have my copy of Elisabeth and to show it (PRIVATE SCREENINGS of course) to my friends who don't speak Japanese or don't have the specialized vocabulary for the show. I don't understand why anyone would decide to fuck it up for the rest of us, and I'm furious with the culprits.

Do what you think is best. I do really appreciate your translating services.

...

Such utter impudence of people and I'm all for one on the shut down as well.

[identity profile] mglory67.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I am saddened to hear this. I hope it can be resolved without a permanent shutdown, but you must do what you think best.

There always has to be a fly in the ointment, doesn't there?

[identity profile] dunkle-feuer.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And just when I finally had time to order your latest project... This is very sad and I'm very sorry (for you and us) that this happened. Some people just have to ruin it for everybody (and just have to be idiots). But whatever you decide to do, I'm in full support of it, even if you should decide to close down for good. Thanks for everything you have done so far. Without you, I would never have discovered Takarazuka and for that I will always be grateful!
quinquin: (Oh No...)

[personal profile] quinquin 2009-04-03 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh.. look it's the Swedes :-( I vote for no more distribution at least to these parts of the woods... we clearly have no manners in these matters.

I'm so sorry that some people have no respect for other fans hard work. I support whatever decision you make about this.

[identity profile] faux-semblant.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
AH AH AAAHHHH !!!!

[identity profile] dramaturgca.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That's horrible. Do what you think is best. I would be devastated if you shut down permanently, but I would also totally understand. Much love for you all.

[identity profile] wyrdness.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was still planning on getting Elisabeth, because I am lazy and like subtitles... But if you decide you need to shut down, either permanently or just until further notice, then that's understandable. It's a shame that a few individual ruin it for the rest of us though.

[identity profile] galynthia.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks! I'm sorry someone took advantage of you guys like this. Have you all considered just putting out sub files? That way people can download the files to use with DVDs they already have? For example just offer the subtitled track to Elisabeth but not the video. That way people who have purchased the Elisabeth DVD can then download the sub track and load it with their DVD on the computer? You won't have anymore troubles with people uploading your video and you're then encouraging people to purchase the DVDs! :) Just figured I'd offer that as an alternative to shutting down all together.

[identity profile] baine.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
IMO, that's actually not a bad idea! That way, more could be subbed, too, *and* Takarazuka would be getting money. I'd be down with that (though I only have four so far), though I don't know how TIP feels about such matters.

[identity profile] galynthia.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple anime groups started doing it awhile back and yeah some people hated it but those who bought the DVDs liked it. That way the subtitlers were off the hook because what they were doing wasn't illegal and they got a warm fuzzy feeling that they were helping to support the company. That and the subtitling groups didn't have to waste their time burning DVDs anymore :)

[identity profile] wao-wao.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
This does seem like a reasonable idea at first. The problem is, it only takes one person to rip their own DVD and upload it -- and then it's all over the internet, *in DVD quality*, with TIP's name and TIP's subtitles attached. We're still trying to think of the best solution, but we just don't want to be associated with this kind of thing. :\

Sorry, Julie. Was using my cell phone, and by the time I'd finished typing I think you'd commented. Didn't mean to double your answers.

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. We did consider that option way back when, but once the raw sub files are available publically, the potential for abuse sadly becomes all the greater. So we voted for the slower, old-fashioned way.

All the text translations ARE available publically, however.

[identity profile] ruderal-species.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
All the text translations ARE available publically, however.

Psst... not actually. None of my full-length translations are available in the exact same version online (with TIP edits and the same-day adlibs) and for the Sampler some of the songs were only done for the disk and never posted online. I think of the stuff I do for TIP as for TIP only and once everyone has put in their two-cents I don't consider it entirely "mine" anymore...

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2009-04-07 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
This is true for mine as well, but people would (supposedly) have commercial copies anyway, so the same-day adlibs and things wouldn't matter. Samplers are samplers.... I'm thinking more about the full scripts. *shrug*

[identity profile] faux-semblant.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
did someone send a mail to the 3 girls to remove the videos from youtube?

(Anonymous) 2009-04-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Bombalurina18 has deleted the videos

(Anonymous) 2009-04-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I don't really get it...What's stopping people from making copies and sell them the same way TIP does???
I mean..re-distribute the orders you've received and only charge for the DVD-R and shipping!
NO PROFIT!

[identity profile] wao-wao.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing stopping them should be their conscience. :( We put a notice on every disc saying our works are not to be redistributed and/or sold for profit. If people aren't trustworthy enough to agree to the conditions we set, then maybe it's not worth sharing our hard work with them.

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely nothing, and we have no problems with making copies for friends, since all our shows are TV recordings. :)

However. *We do not want our subs online.* We have asked everyone we distro to to please respect this.

(Anonymous) 2009-04-04 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I mean. I would never upload your work online but I sure would make copies, backups for myself and to share with my friends :-)

[identity profile] baine.livejournal.com 2009-04-03 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it possible to track down who the people are on the list? Have they been contacted and asked for the videos to be removed?

I think, in the end, you have to do what you feel comfortable doing. It's sad that a few people can ruin things for everyone, but I do understand where you're coming from. Now, my biggest regret is not getting your releases yet due to being laid off!

I apologize for the videos on youtube

[identity profile] guadalopey.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi,

I wante to start to apologize to the translators in TIP for my reckless beahvior by uploading video clips on youtube.com. I'm the youtueb.com/Guadalopey who done it.

Please forgive me for doing so. The point was to let other people who don't speak japanese to enjoy the subtitled clips.

I've recomanded people whom are takarazuka musicals fan to purchase from TIP becouse you guys give the oportunity to do so. I've never copied or sold your DVDs to anyone and I'm not inted to do so. Buy uploading some videos I've done a mistake.

I opoligize once again and I wish and hope you guys don't stop your good work.

/Guadalopey

Thank you, Guadalopey. I, for one, appreciate the apology.

I appreciate it as well. Thank you.

[identity profile] sidherequiem.livejournal.com 2009-04-04 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That is rather upsetting that people would do that after having a notice not to do it. I completely understand if you shut down (even if I havent yet gotten a chance to order). The actions of the few sadly tends to affect the view of the whole.

[identity profile] rose-of-pain.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really sad that this happened. I was really hoping it wouldn't. ;_; Though no matter what the decision is, I'm really grateful for all the projects you guys did and still cherish my own discs.

[identity profile] hawkwolf.livejournal.com 2009-04-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that truly sucks. I can understand why y'all might want to shut down permanently, though from my own selfish standpoint I hope you don't. I just got my copy of Elisabeth today and was looking forward to putting in a few more orders once the money comes in for me.

Especially since being able to see Elisabeth subed has cemented my desire to save my money up for the official box set. Love '05, need, need, need to see the other versions now!

(Anonymous) 2009-05-03 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
How's it going with the decision? Have you decided to shut down permanently?
If so, then the only way to get the subtitled DVDs is to beg for someone who already received their orders to, please(!), either upload or distribute them! 'Cause if it ain't gonna be any more subtitled shows then we got nothing to lose, right? Sad but true ;_;

Hi, I'm not the person above whom you've replied to; just wanted to say thank you, jenebi, for the link, and the TIP team for coming to this decision. =]
