January Update

I will do monthly updates if it kills me. *resolute pose*

Sooo~ Let me see....

[livejournal.com profile] ruderal_species has finished her first rough draft of Gekijou: Jose and Carmen. Hopefully she won't mind me linking to it here, since the entry in her journal isn't locked. ;) She may also have another announcement for everyone fairly soon, so keep your eyes on this journal!

I am extremely thrilled to report that the timing of the subs for Elisabeth is DONE. We're going through and doing our final edits to make sure spelling, punctuation and such didn't get missed, and that everything is readable and as clear as mud possible. It'll probably still be quite a few weeks before we pronounce it done, but it's definite good news!

Gaisenmon and Epiphany are putting along, and you can see roughly where we're at by keeping your eye on their project pages.

[livejournal.com profile] muffin_song is contemplating a possible Top Secret project, and I'd tell you all about it, but then I'd have to kill you. ;)

Anyone else? Anything to add?

And now I'm going to stand on my soap box while I have the opportunity and get some feedback from everyone.

1) Well, firstly, please don't be shy about adding your comments on the project pages to tell us (and everyone) what you thought about the show itself and/or the subtitles. We've definitely been changing our subbing programs and things, and it's great to have feedback about what you guys would like to see us doing. Plus, it gives other people a feel for which shows they might want to get from us, and the more feedback, the less we look like we're sending things off into a black hole. :)

2) Since I'm getting further along in Epiphany, I'm thinking about what I would like to do next, but I have some reservations on some of them, so I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought. (Well, actually, I also have a Top Secret project, but I can't do that one for a while, so....) In the plus side for all of these, they're some of my all-time favorite and adored shows. I'll list my reservations below.

My possible thoughts are:
Eire no Zanshou -- No reservations about this one, actually. It is love, love, LOVE.
Figaro! -- Will very likely be out on DVD within the next 5 or so years.
Scout -- Also likely to be out on DVD when Tomu becomes a top star, and I don't have a script, so it'll take me a while, if it's doable at all.
Futari Dake ga Waru -- Also another show which is complete love, though not too terribly original, since it follows the Zuka Central America Plot Generator cliches. ;) Unfortunately, my copy is scratched enough that I can't copy it directly, so I'd either need to find a new copy, or copy it in a very round-about fashion which would degenerate the quality to a VHS level.
Oh! And SAY IT AGAIN -- This is a Bow Hall starring Naruse Kouki and Asami Hikaru, based on "Two Gentleman of Verona". Would people want another Shakespeare adaption right after I finish Epiphany?

I'm not going to do a poll, because then only lj people could vote, so just drop a note below if you'd like, please! Just remember, I still have to finish Epiphany, so it'll probably be a while before I move on. ;)

~Jen

ETA: I'm really glad to see some people commenting! But I do want to say something here because I think my post was a little misinterpreted. I've already narrowed down the shows that I want to do to the list above, so I'm really not looking for other suggestions. There are so many great shows out there, I totally agree, but translating takes a lot of time, so I really want to work on shows that I love personally. What I'd like to know is, out of that list, which ones seem most interesting to you guys as well? :)

Yay! Another vote for Eire! <3

I think it's pretty certain. *knock on wood* I can think of only one instance in the last twenty years when a nibante didn't continue to be a top star....

Asaka Jun. Kotobuki Hizuru.

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Asaka I knew. Kotobuki retired in '82, didn't she?

I think it was more like '86 or '87, although with TakaWiki gone I couldn't say for sure. I just know she was an almost-top with a gorgeous voice.

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
She did have a gorgeous voice. I didn't realize she was nibante for a while, though. Anyway, Anniversary book to the rescue! She did retire in '82, ken-11.

[identity profile] shirabyoshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hum. She was placed above Pei-san in that OG show I saw, despite never having been top, but I suppose they would still be a similar level if she left at only ken-11... and I do think she was nibante, or why would she keep showing up in the same dinner shows and on the same CDs as lots of tops?

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're completely right. She was Asami Rei's nibante for two years, part of a "golden trio". ;) She was then moved to Hanagumi in '82 to become top after double-tops Matsu Akira and Jun Mitsuki retired, but suddenly announced she was getting married and retired herself that same year.

[identity profile] shirabyoshi.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNEW SHE WAS MINE.

Double tops? Golden Trio?

[identity profile] caithion.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There were short periods in the 70s and 80s where some troupes had two top otokoyaku stars: double tops. Golden trio is a top stars+nibante otokoyaku combination, I would suppose, from where I've seen it used?
